WWDC 09!

Today is the first day of Apple’s World Wide Developer’s Conference (WWDC), when Apple announces (and in some cases releases) new products, services, hardware, and software.

(this post will update as the day goes on – click read more for more info.)

My personal expectations for this year:

release of a late beta or release candidate (or perhaps full release) of Mac OS X 10.6: Snow Leopard with distribution sometime in the next few months.

Announcement of new iPhones for release in coming months

iPhone OS 3.0 available for distribution later in the day or within the next couple weeks.

Some kind of new desktop mac announcement (probably upgraded Mac Pros)

Possibly lower at&t pricing structure for iPhone.

VMware

I just finished migrating this site to a LAMP server within vmware server on my primary server box to aid in possible upward hardware migration without any downtime.

not sure when i get get some new hardware for it, but it should be easy to change when i do… shouldn’t be any more than a few minutes downtime.

and yes, I know that I don’t post here nearly enough and that it’s sad, but I swear that I’m attempting to improve.

Google AdSense / Donations

As you may have noticed, I have added a google AdSense banner to the site to help defray hosting, hardware, and maintenance costs for the site. hope it helps a tad. [edited 6/28 to better comply with adsense policies]

Speaking of helping the site out, we are still at $0 for donations for the bandwidth fund. All bandwidth that hasn’t been donated will be forced to come out of pocket from me. It’s not terribly expensive on the short term, but it adds up pretty quickly. And when you are like me, and can barely afford to pay attention, well, it’s difficult to work on new content when you’re hungry…

Monetization

I need to find a way to monetize the web… some way to utilize the cluster / social networking behind friends telling friends about a good place to host content, conversation, and read content that is community sustained. both actively (donations, paid content), or passively (via advertising that isn’t stylistically offensive). any comments / suggestions welcome.

I took a few minutes to update the frameworks for the back end content management system this morning, if anybody notices any part of this site break or acting funny, please let me know so i can bang my head on the table, curse, and then finally figure out a way to fix it.
